Do you Feel It?

I feel a little love now. Not much. But enough to keep me going.

To answer some questions:

1. The Gits - My Gits shows appear to be gone forever. A result of the Deleter. They still may be on a backup somewhere, but I don't have much hope. A tragedy because I can't find them anywhere.

2. The Replacements - Up tomorrow.

3. Cheap Trick - I don't have 31 December 1979. Sorry.

4. Ramones - Next week. Takes time to prepare and upload. But for you ... anything.

5. FBB - I have one more Flying Burrito Brothers w/o Gram Parsons. Next week.

6. No. Just because I live in Key West I am not gay. Not a problem with me if you are. I have gay friends just not my sexual preference. However, I do think John Travolta is a very handsome man.

Jeff Buckley Hamburg - 22 February 1995 @ 320

Wikipedia says: Known for his ethereal singing voice, Buckley was considered by critics to be one of the most promising artists of his generation after the release of his critically acclaimed 1994 debut album Grace. However, at the height of his popularity, Buckley drowned during an evening swim in 1997. His work and style continue to be highly regarded by critics and fellow musicians.

There is so much that can be said about Jeff Buckley's music and voice, there's not enough room to put it here. If you have never heard of him, give this a try. For me, his voice is the best rock has to offer. Not the traditional rock voice. This guy can SING.

Tomorrow The Fruit Festival. I get to go.

Tomorrow is the Fruit Festival here in Key West. They fill a park up with fruit and you go look at it and taste it. Hey, I can look at and taste the "fruits" on Duval street any night of the week.

Sheesh! I hate bloggers that whine about comments.

But..Jeez...over 1800 visitors today...no comments. Well, maybe one from some guy complaining about Lou Reed. I deleted his comment because I have that power. Rocket over at Hear Rock City gets comments (His link is over on the left). Ha Ha I Meant right -> AM I NOT AS LOVED AS ROCKET!!!!!!! Sure he's been around a lot longer..but..Sniffle...I need a little lovin'. I really don't need thanks (but thank me if you want), but I would like some input on sound quality. Did the show RAAWWWWK!!! Or, after you downloaded, did the show make you do perverted things to small animals? Did the last Tragically Hip post cure the dirty feelings you have for Mom? Oh, hell. Keep your stinkin' comments. See if I care. I'm going to go leave an anonymous comment at Hear Rock City. Then on to Infinite Foolishness to be a smart ass.

Of Montreal March 2007 Live On KCRW @ 320

Wikipedia says: Of Montreal is an American indie pop band formed in Athens, Georgia, fronted by Kevin Barnes. It was among the second wave of groups to emerge from The Elephant 6 Recording Company.

The band was created by Kevin Barnes and named after a failed romance with a woman from Montreal, though the story changes in various interviews. Barnes was the only member of the "group" prior to his relocation to Athens, Georgia. There, he met Derek Almstead, later of the Circulatory System, M Coast, Elf Power, etc., and Bryan Poole, who also performs as The Late B.P. Helium. Together, they recorded their first album, Cherry Peel, as well as The Bird Who Continues to Eat the Rabbit's Flower and The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy.

Sparklehorse 9-21-98 Live In Stockholm @ 320

Sparklehorse is a rock music group led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous, who records much of Sparklehorse's material in his home studio. Drummer and multi-instrumentalist Scott Minor is a frequent collaborator.

Sparklehorse's first album, Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot (1995), was a modest college radio success. In 1996, while supporting Tindersticks on the first Sparklehorse tour, Linkous overdosed on alcohol, Valium and antidepressants and possibly other substances in his London hotel room [1]. Unconscious and with his legs pinned beneath him for almost fourteen hours, the resulting potassium buildup caused his heart to stop for several minutes after his body was lifted up. The ensuing surgeries nearly caused him to lose both legs and left him wheelchair-bound for six months.

Good Morning Spider (1998) was recorded following this incident. Critics have conjectured that Linkous's near death experience inspired the somber tone of the album, though Linkous has stated that much of the material on GMS was written prior. One song which did result from it is "St. Mary", which is dedicated to the nurses at the eponymous hospital in Paddington where Linkous recuperated.

Devo 1980 Chicago /New York @ 320

Wikipedia says: Devo (pronounced DEE-vo or dee-VO, often spelled "DEVO" or "DEV-O") is an American New Wave group formed in Akron, Ohio in 1972. They are best known for their 1980 hit "Whip It", which made it to #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Their style has been variously classified as punk, art rock and post-punk, but they are most often remembered for their late 1970s and early 1980s New Wave music which, along with others (such as Gary Numan, Oingo Boingo, and The B-52's) ushered in the synth pop sound of the 1980s.

Devo's music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary via sometimes-discordant pop songs that often feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures, and their work has proved hugely influential on subsequent popular music, particularly New Wave and alternative rock artists.

Devo were also pioneers of the music video, creating many memorable clips that were popular in the early days of MTV, although their use of the video medium dates right back to their very first appearance on stage at Kent State University in 1973, which was recorded with an early b/w portable video system.

Guided By Voices GBV at the 40 Watt @ 192

Wikipedia says: Guided by Voices (often abbreviated as GbV) was an extremely prolific lo-fi/indie-rock band from Dayton, Ohio. As an integral part of the American independent rock scene from 1986 until 2004, they turned out a number of albums which showcased their propensity for short, catchy songs.

Over the years the band saw many personnel changes, but always maintained the presence of principal singer/songwriter Robert Pollard, a former schoolteacher. Pollard was an avid rock fan, and Guided by Voices' work always reflected his steadfast devotion to The Who, post-British Invasion garage rock, psychedelic, prog-rock, as well as punk and post-punk.

Guided by Voices also garnered much attention for its prolificacy, with a seemingly endless stream of releases. Most songs are in the two-minute range, but many are even shorter; often they end abruptly or are intertwined with odd and homemade sound effects. While Guided by Voices progressed over time from an aspiring bar band, to willfully scuzzy basement obscurantists, to a relatively professional riff-pop machine in the latter half of the 90s, the constants throughout were Pollard's seemingly instinctual grasp of the pop form, his digestion of reams of rock history, cryptic lyrics and titles, and his gift for melodic invention.

The Tubes 1985 Kingswood Music Theatre-Toronto @ 320

Wikipedia says: The Tubes are a San Francisco-based theatre rock band, popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s, known for their live performances that combined lewd quasi-pornography with wild satires of media, consumerism and politics.

Showbiz excess was a common theme of the band's early work, with Waybill sometimes assuming the onstage persona of Quay Lewd, a drunk, drugged-out, barely coherent lead singer, decked out with flashing glasses and impossibly tall platform shoes. "White Punks on Dope," from their debut album, was an absurd anthem of wretched excess, and a tribute to their rich, white teenage fanbase in San Francisco. The song was covered as "TV Glotzer" by Nina Hagen as the opening track of her band's first album. ("TV Glotzer," pronunced "Tay-Fow Glohtzah" essentially means "couch potato" and is literally translated from German as "one who stares at television".)

One critic noted that with their media savvy and theatrical skills, The Tubes were born to create rock video, but arrived several years too early. [2] Instead, they put their creativity and art skills into their live performances, in which songs could be full-fledged production numbers, from a beach movie parody for "Sushi Girl," to leather-clad S&M hijinks in "Mondo Bondage," to the game show antics of "What Do You Want From Life?" At their peak, their act featured dozens of other performers, including tap dancers and acrobats. The Tubes stage productions were choreographed by Kenny Ortega and featured castmembers; Jane Dornacker, LeRoy Jones, Michael Holman, Michael Springer, Edwin Heaven, Cindi Osborn, Heline Gouax and Mary Niland from 1975-1977. From 1978-1979 the cast included, Sharon Collins, Caty Bevan and Loryanna Catalano. The Completion Backward Tour featured Shelly Pang, Cheryl Hangland and Cynthia Rhodes. From 1983-85 Michelle Gray and Cheryl Hangland were principal dancers. Several crew members including Lee Collins, Steve "Chopper" Borges and Gail Lowe made frequent apperances on stage in various roles as well.

Toadies 02/10/95 Roxy Theatre, Hollywood, CA @ 320

Wikipedia says: Toadies were a grunge band from Fort Worth, Texas. The band's final lineup consisted of Todd Lewis, Mark Reznicek, Lisa Umbarger, and Clark Vogeler.

They are best known for the hit single "Possum Kingdom," from their album Rubberneck. This song was named after Possum Kingdom State Park, in Palo Pinto County, Texas.

The band formed in 1989. Toadies officially disbanded in 2001, although they had farewell concerts in 2002. The band reformed for a reunion show on March 11, 2006, headlining the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's Day parade concert. They also had a reunion show at EdgeFest 15 on June 18, 2006. In March of 2007, the band embarked on a mini-tour, playing dates in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. The final show at the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's Day parade was recorded and released as Rock Show.

Toadies toured extensively throughout the 1990s, opening for such artists as Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Zombie, Bush, and The Butthole Surfers. They also headlined and co-headlined tours with acts such as Brutal Juice, Baboon, Supersuckers, and The Reverend Horton Heat.

The primary reason for the breakup of the band was that Lisa Umbarger simply did not want to be a part of it anymore, and bandleader Todd Lewis felt that the band could not continue without her.

The Tragically Hip 12/12/98 Milwaukee Wisconsin @ 320

Wikipedia says: The band is immensely popular in Canada. They have never found mainstream success in the United States. Their most-seen appearance in the United States was on March 25, 1995, when they appeared on Saturday Night Live with fellow Canadian and friend Dan Aykroyd guest starring, and with John Goodman hosting. In 1999, The Hip were also one of the featured bands at Woodstock '99 held in Rome, New York. When touring in Canada they typically play to sold-out arenas; when touring in the United States they play smaller venues and clubs, or festivals where they aren't the headliner. Performances abroad are usually attended by Canadian expatriates. The band permit recordings of their performances, so an active trading community thrives. The tone and content of much of their music is a paean to the Canadian experience and touches on such themes as small-town life, geography, Canadian history and hockey. The historical, geographical and individual references in many of the lyrics are a source of much internet discussion.

The Byrds 11/02/68 Avalon Ballroom San Francisco CA @ 320

Before alt-country was hip and cool, there was(were?) the Byrds.

Much to my surprise, the Byrds at the Fillmore West has been the most downloaded show. So for all the Byrds fans out there, here's another heapin' helpin'.

The real mind blower is Modest Mouse is the 2nd most downloaded show. Go figure. I like Modest Mouse, but poor old Trip Shakespeare only has 4 downloads. That's what I can't fathom. Get some Trip folks..it's pretty cool.

Will try to get Rolling Stones Atlantic City up this afternoon.

So far .. 320 Rules

It appears most people want the shows to remain in 320 kbps. If you haven't weighed in yet, do so or forever hold your piece/peace? For those naysayers out there...One of the first things I did when I became a downloader bandit was get a Rapidshare account. After being thwarted time and time again with download limits, I broke down and spent the $9.95 for a month of Rapidshare. The world became a thing of beauty. Freedom from limits. Multiple simultaneous downloads. Heaven! Then I got a Megaupload account...the universe was my playground. In a month you can download billions of shows. Very worth it in my opinion. Yeah...Yeah. If you use your credit card there's a record of the transaction. If you are like me and only dowbload live recordings, there's probably not much to worry about. I tell myself that on a daily basis, anyway.

Does size matter? Most women say no. What do they really want?

Most of the shows I post here are at 320 kbps. Originally, they were in lossless format (SHN, Flac, APE). BIg files. I converted them to MP3. Much smaller files. I know there is a big debate over whether 320 kbps is worth it. I convert them to 320 to try to preserve as much as I can the quality of the lossless file. A lot of people say they can't tell the difference. Sometimes I can't either. Sometimes I can. I know I can always tell the difference with anything below 192 kbps. However, I understand it can be a big hassle to download so many files. So, the question is, what bit rate would you prefer to have these shows in? Does size matter? Will it feel as good at 192? Give me your opinion. I may change bit rates.

Any last requests?

The Steely Dan and Tom Petty will be up this afternoon that have been requested. If there are any other pre-hacker shows I have missed you want up before my vacation, let me know today.

Post Pixie Reaches 100

100 posts in less than a week. Has anyone done that before? No one sane anyway. I'll post a few more before vacation. Is there such a thing as post withdrawal? I was getting burned out until Rocket over at Hear Rock City: http://hear-rock-city.blogspot.com/ posted an extremely cool Television show and got me all fired up again. There's also an excellent early Uncle Tupelo over there.

Cool New Band

Also at Infinite Foolishness: http://infinitefool.blogspot.com/

Backyard Tire Fire - A hybrid of Uncle Tupelo/Wilco. A nice mix of rock and country. Harmonic vocals and twangy guitar. Very interesting to me. I am going to go BUY THE CD, convert it to MP3, and take it on my vacation to listen to at the beach. Yes...for real. I BUY commercial releases or delete them if they suck. Yeah I'm weird. I am one of the few people in the world that BUYS CDs. This Cd will be one of the few I have BOUGHT this year along with Warren Zevon's "Stand In The Fire". So..go download it. If you like it...I hope you BUY it. (See Big Brother...Don't sue me. I am your friend. I BUY music that is for sale.)

Cheap Trick went into the studio to rerecord their In Color album. They thought it lacked muscle when compared to their other two initial releases. The sessions were never commercially released. I don't have a date on this recording.
